Everyday posture
Adjust the passenger seat without compromising the belt, keep bags out of the footwell and plan comfortable stops on family drives.
1
For a long family car trip, passengers should sit with their back supported, feet resting comfortably and the seat belt positioned as the vehicle instructions require.
Check that clothing does not prevent a close, correct belt fit and that you can move comfortably. Follow the vehicle and child restraint instructions, especially for children wearing bulky layers.
Comfort depends on the particular seat, legroom and your body. Try the available positions while parked, but make the final choice within the vehicle safety instructions and child restraint requirements.
Keep to a properly restrained travelling position while the car moves. Use a safe stop for a larger change of position instead of lying across the seats.
Put it away, tell the driver and consider a safe stop if needed. Do not persist with a reading position just because it appears better for your neck.
