Desk ergonomics

What gentle desk movements suit a cold, stiff office day?

Try comfortable shoulder, ankle and standing movements at your desk, without forcing stretches or continuing through pain.

On a cold, stiff office day, try small shoulder movements, comfortable ankle movements and a short walk rather than forcing a deep stretch at your desk.

Do stretches need to feel strong to count?

No. A comfortable change of position can be useful without a strong pull. Avoid judging success by intensity, soreness afterwards or how far a colleague can move.

Can I do these movements during a meeting?

Small comfortable movements may be practical while seated. Keep attention on safety and the task, and save standing or walking for a suitable pause rather than rushing a transfer.

Should I stretch an area that feels numb?

Stop the activity and change position. Persistent or recurring numbness needs assessment; forcing a stretch is not a reliable way to identify or resolve the cause.

What if I cannot stand from my office chair easily?

Do not pull on a mobile desk or ask a colleague to yank your arms. Use your established transfer method and seek an individual workstation and mobility assessment.
