Is carrying a child on your shoulders a good idea at a fair?

Plan alternatives to shoulder carrying at crowded events, with clear transfer spaces, shared carrying and breaks before fatigue.

Carrying a child on your shoulders at a fair can make balance and safe transfers harder, especially in a crowd.

Can a child ride on my shoulders while I use stairs?

Choose a safer arrangement before reaching the stairs. The raised load, restricted view and need for a handrail make this an unsuitable place to continue a shoulder ride.

Is standing still easier than walking with a child?

It may remove the need to step, but you still support the load and respond to the child moving. A long stationary wait can become tiring, so arrange a seated alternative.

Can I carry two children if one is on each side?

Do not treat a balanced-looking arrangement as a safe one. You need control, a clear view and a way to put each child down. Ask another adult or change the plan.

What if my child refuses to walk back?

Move to a safe rest area and reassess together. A shorter route, help from another adult or suitable transport is preferable to carrying beyond your ability to stay steady.
